13 Pounds Of Meth Found During Traffic Stop With Help From K-9 “Jack”

Jake-K9-Drug-dogOne woman is in jail after a sheriff’s deputy found 13 pounds of meth in her car.  32-year-old Maria Garcia of Anaheim had an estimated street value of $228,000 of methamphetamine.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Deputy Al Barger and his K-9 "Jack" were traveling northbound on Highway 101 at about 7:15 p.m. on Monday, when Barger noticed a car making several abrupt lane changes.

Barger ran a check on the license plate and discovered the registration had expired.  He pulled the car over, which contained Garcia and her three children.

Barger found out Garcia had a prior criminal history of transporting drugs.  Garcia consented to a search of her car and had her three children leave the car.

The K-9 indicated drugs were in the back seat area.  Barger noticed the back seat was loose and removed it. This exposed a metal plate above the gas tank, which was missing a screw.  After removing the plate Barger found 13 one-pound plastic packages of meth floating in the gas tank.

Garcia was arrested and her three children, 5, 12 and 15-years-old were turned over to Child Protective Services.  Her bail is set at $1 million.
