Popularity Of Video Websites Will Push Up Broadband Costs

The growing popularity of online video sharing websites like YouTube is likely to result in increased broadband costs for consumers, it has been reported.

Websites like YouTube are proving increasingly popular and internet service providers believe the higher level of congestion will push up connection costs - costs which will ultimately be footed by consumers.

The alternative to rising bills is traffic shaping, a method which delays information being sent across the network until the line becomes clear. Internet firm Tiscali says, "Peer to Peer traffic is the first to be affected at peak times making downloading slower but not limiting it with any caps."
