The Brave One Video Movie Review

“The Brave One” is “Death Wish” with a dress and a mean vigilante streak. The tragedy that unfolds starts with the main character Erica Bain played by Jodie Foster. Bain, a host of a public radio show in Manhattan called “Street Walk” spend her time and show exploiting the greatness of the city and the history that’s being lost on a daily basis. Her life is happy and nostalgic until one night when she’s out with her fiancé played by Naveen Andrews and dog for a stroll through the park. Their dog runs down a dark tunnel which leads Bain and her fiancé into a terrifying situation with three violent muggers who severely beat the couple.

Bain awakens three weeks later to find herself in shambles and her fiancé dead. With all of these events hitting her she goes through multiple phases that include fear and agoraphobia and end with anger and revenge. As a victim who craves protection Bain buys a gun and starts down a dark road where any events that transpire are met with lethal force.

Along the way she crosses paths with a homicide detective played by Terrence Howard, a good cop who can’t stand all the evil that escapes.

When I thought about watching then reviewing this movie I was worried I would be over the whole vigilante vibe. But the fact of the matter is that with a female lead the story becomes different. There are more emotions than anger and Jodie Foster touches many of them. In addition, Terrence Howard is utterly fantastic. He continues to grow in every way as an actor and I will always look forward to his performances.
