Arrest of Santa Barbara Student Leads to Second Arrest

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division arrested a University of California Santa Barbara student yesterday, January 14, following an investigation which began on January 8 and involved Sheriff’s Deputies with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol.   The Sheriff’s Deputies were in the process of citing a subject on a minor in possession of alcohol charge when the individual fled.

Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance of several Isla Vista residents were able to identify the subject and where he lived.  When they arrived at the residence, located in the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde Road in Isla Vista, they discovered the subject’s roommate, 19-year-old Scott Lienhart, in the back yard in the process of manufacturing concentrated cannabis.

Sheriff’s Detectives served a search warrant at the residence on January 14 and during the investigation, child pornography was located on Lienhart’s cell phone.  He was arrested and taken into custody.   Lienhart was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for possession of child pornography.  Additional charges which include manufacturing drugs by use of chemical means and possession of a controlled substance have been forwarded to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office for review.  Lienhart was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment.
