Five Cities Newspaper Shutting Down


The Times Press-Recorder, the newspaper that covers the Five Cities area, announced they will be shutting down operations.  In a letter to their subscribers, the company said the end of business is due to dwindling advertising revenue and increases in operating costs.  The community publication owned by Lee Central Coast Newspapers will print their final paper Friday, May 27th.

Tomorrow will mark the 20 year anniversary of the disappearance of Cal Poly Freshman Kristin Smart.  Returning from a campus party, Smart walked back to her home with others, but was never seen again. Cal Fire is investigating the cause of a fire that started at a recycling area in San Luis Obispo, Friday night.  The fire broke out just after 7:30PM at the Materials Recycling Facility, at Cold Canyon Landfill on Carpenter Canyon Road.  Fire crews battled the blaze well into Saturday morning.  Fire fighters had to wear oxygen masks to offset the …

Man In Murder Plot Sentenced


A Los Osos man accused of a murder-for-hire plot was sentenced to prison on Thursday.  The San Luis Obispo Police Department learned that Anthony Stevens, owner of a Los Osos moving company, was looking to hire someone to have a former employee killed.  An undercover investigator was sent to pose as a hitman and make contact with Stevens.  After Stevens …
