At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to a report of a suicidal subject with a firearm inside an apartment in the 700 block of Camino Del Sur. The reporting party identified the subject as 20-year-old Joshua Hillsburg, a UCSB student, and relayed that he had a gun and wanted to kill himself. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the apartment, secured a perimeter and attempted to make contact with Hillsburg. Grover Beach Police Officers assisted the Grover Beach Code Enforcement Officer with a compliance investigation at the residential address of 470 N. 3rd Street in Grover Beach this morning. During the compliance check, the officers located four adults inside the residence along with narcotics and a shotgun. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Glenn Taylor, 32 of Grover Beach for sales of methamphetamine, possession of a gun while in possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance. At 4:05 pm, Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) responded to a reported vegetation fire, located south of the Harris Grade summit.
The fire spread initially from 5 to 10 acres, at a moderate rate of spread on the east side of Harris Grade. The fire was slope driven and burned in pine trees. Wind was not a factor. District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that John Anthony Wilson pled no contest to four felony counts of grand theft of aqua-cultural product. The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted on a couple of issues. In the first, it agreed to provide The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County with $400,000 for the purchase of the Pismo Preserve. On Sunday, August 24, at approximately 4:35PM the PRPD received a report of the theft of a dog from a pet store in the 700 block of 6th Street. An autopsy was performed on the body of 37-year-old Javier Alcantar Limon of Santa Maria last Thursday, August 21. The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Limon’s body was discovered by a group of field workers August 19 lying face down outside the entrance to Guadalupe Beach in the 6900 block of Main Street. Police have no suspects yet.
