Sex Offender Arrested for Parole Violation


On October 14 at approximately 8 o’clock, an alert citizen near Sinsheimer Elementary School noticed a suspicious male walking in front of the school. The citizen recognized the subject as Robert Menendez who is a PC 290, registered sex offender. Santa Maria police are looking for two and possibly three bank robbers who may have committed a total of ten armed robberies in the area in the past two weeks. The latest two occurred this past Saturday night at convenience stores in Orcutt and Santa Maria.  Police continue to investigate.

Early Warning System Testing


The Early Warning System sirens around SLO County will be tested today and tomorrow. Each of the 131 sirens will sound for just a few seconds. The sirens cover an area from Cayucos to Nipomo and are intended to be used in the case of a variety of natural or man-made disasters.
