IRS Phone Scam


Yesterday a Los Osos resident received a call from a male subject reporting himself to be with the IRS. He told the victim they had a warrant for their arrest and they needed to submit money in order to recall the warrant. A second male subject later called representing himself to be an “officer with the Sheriff’s Office” as he confirmed the statements made by the previous caller. In addition to the statement by the suspects as being affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office, the caller ID on the victims telephone displayed a telephone number utilized by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Carpinteria Man Arrested for Child Pornography


A 24-year-old Carpinteria resident is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of possession of child pornography. Sheriff’s detectives arrested Giovanni Gonzalez at his Carpinteria residence on October 7, 2014 following an investigation and a search warrant.  Gonzalez was found to be in possession of hundreds of images of child pornography. The investigation into Gonzalez began on September 23, 2014 when the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau received notification from reports generated through the Los Angeles Area Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (LA-ICAC) and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline Report. Trail Restoration Sponsored by Veterans Outreach


30 local military veterans and family members are set to participate in a trail restoration day sponsored by Veterans Outreach and City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department at Irish Hills hiking trail on Saturday, October 11. Participants will meet at the Madonna Road trailhead (West end of Madonna Road) at 9 a.m. to help on tasks such trail maintenance, restoring vegetation, and building bridges during this opportunity for our veterans to remain connected as a valued group in the greater community of San Luis Obispo County.

Freeway Lane Shut Down All Night Due to Accident


The slow lane of Northbound 101 is open. The freeway was shut down all night at 101 and South Higuera Street because of a big rig accident. Traffic headed north was heavy and stop and go during the commute backing up as far back as Avila Beach Drive. CHP and Caltrans are checking on the integrity of the bridge which passes over S. Higuera. No injuries were reported. The accident is under investigation.

Deadly Motorcycle Accident


A Santa Margarita man riding a motorcycle was killed yesterday morning after he lost control of his bike after passing a vehicle in the Creston area. The 56-year-old rider crashed on Huer Huero Road, about three miles south of State Route 58 when the accident occurred. The man, who has yet to be identified, died of head injuries.

Atascadero Announces Funding From CCHE


The City of Atascadero is very happy to announce that, with additional grant funding received from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE), a state entity tasked with preserving and protecting California cultural heritage, the City is now able to move forward with the final project related to the restoration of the Historic City Hall building, the exterior lighting project.

Atascadero’s City Hall building was severely damaged in the San Simeon Earthquake of 2003; restoration of the historic building was completed in 2013, with the exception of the planned exterior lighting project due to lack of funding at the time.

Burglary in Templeton Results in Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property


Last Sunday, SLO County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary report in the 5900 block of El Pomar Drive in Templeton. During the course of the investigation, a witness was able to provide a vehicle and suspect description. The next day, on 9-29-14, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an attempted burglary in the 7000 block of Creston Road in rural Paso Robles. The victim in that case confronted the suspect who disavowed any knowledge of a burglary and reportedly told the victim his wife had sent him to that location “to buy some puppies.” The victim in this case was able to provide Deputies with the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle. Car Burglary Leads to High Speed Pursuit


On 10-2-14, SLO County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a car burglary in progress in the parking lot at the base of Bishop Peak on Foothill Boulevard near San Luis Obispo. A witness was able to give a description of the suspect’s vehicle, a white Dodge pickup truck, and Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Coast Station observed the vehicle at approximately 8:20 AM traveling on Los Osos Valley Road near Los Osos. Deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit began. The pursuit continued through Los Osos to northbound Highway 1, through Morro Bay before the suspect turned eastbound on Highway 41. Suspect in Custody on Charges of Raping UCSB Student


 A suspect is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of raping a 19-year-old University of California Santa Barbara student on October 1, 2014 at a fraternity house in Isla Vista.  23-year-old Victor Farias, of Salinas, was arrested later that day following an investigation by Sheriff’s deputies with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol (IVFP).
The investigation began at approximately 6:45 a.m. on October 1 when the victim came into IVFP and reported that she had been raped by the suspect at a fraternity house located in the 800 block of Fortuna Lane in Isla Vista.  Farias was reportedly visiting a friend who was a fraternity brother at the house.

Arroyo Grande City Manager Announces Resignation


Steve Adams, the embroiled city manager of Arroyo Grande, has announced his resignation as soon as his replacement is found. According to Adams who wrote a lengthy letter to members of the press said he could no longer be effective in his role following the fallout from his July 3rd escapade with another city employee.  Despite Adam’s announcement, an independent investigation into the incident will continue.
