Coroner Releases Cause of Death For Two in Traffic Collision


Marijuana-budsThe Coroner's Unit of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is releasing the cause of death for the two men involved in a fatal traffic collision in Paso Robles on 2-26-14. Investigators list the cause of death for 26-year-old Jeremy Nathanial Martin of Grover Beach and 24-year-old Christopher Micheal Medina of Paso Robles as multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Results of toxicology tests are pending and are not expected for six to eight weeks.

Fatal Traffic Accident on SR-154


On Wednesday afternoon, a fatal traffic collision occurred on SR-154 westbound, just west of San Antonio Creek Road.  The collision involved a Hyundai Sedan, which struck the embankment adjacent the dirt shoulder north of the roadway.  The passenger side of the Hyundai collided with the front of a Lexus traveling westbound at the same location. 

The Hyundai was facing southbound on the shoulder and the Lexus was facing westbound in the westbound lane when both vehicle came to rest.  California Highway Patrol Officers, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Deputies, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and Cal Trans personnel responded to the scene.

Phone Scam Preys on Elderly Residents


The San Luis Obispo Police Department has responded to several calls from elderly residents who have been defrauded of thousands of dollars in what is commonly called the “Grandparent Scam.”

In these types of scams, suspects will call an elderly victim and claim to be a grandchild, nephew, niece, or other relative. The suspects will tell the victim that they have been arrested in a foreign country or have been in an accident in a foreign country and are in need of money for bail or medical expenses.

Two Fatal Accidents Yesterday


Two fatal accidents to tell you about. Two people were killed when their car passed in front of a pickup truck on Union Road and Highway 41 yesterday afternoon. People in the pickup might have been injured. Paso P.D. is investigating.  

 A little earlier Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a head-on vehicle accident on Highway 154, 1/4 mile north of San Antonio Creek Rd. The accident involved an SUV and a mid-sized sedan. 

One person, a 31-year-old man from Nipomo, died at the scene and another was treated for minor injuries.  Highway 154 was closed in both directions.  The road was wet at the time of the accident due to rain.&nbs

Shooting Suspect Captured


A man police have been looking for in a shooting last November has been captured.
On November 21, 2013 at approximately 7:45 PM, San Luis Obispo Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Buena Vista regarding the report of a shooting that occurred inside of a residence. When officers arrived they found the victim, identified as 22-yea- old Geoffrey Hyde, had sustained a gunshot wound in his back. Hyde was treated at the scene by San Luis Obispo Fire Department personnel and transported to a local hospital. Hyde underwent emergency surgery and was admitted into the hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Solvang Man in Custody After Slashing Tires


A Solvang man is in custody after going on a tire slashing spree in Solvang which included six United States mail delivery trucks.  Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old Dakota Serge at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning, February 26.  Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 400 block of Alisal Road after a passerby called 9-1-1 to report seeing a man slashing tires in the back parking lot of a business. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they discovered Serge crouched near a car and tires slashed on 11 vehicles in the parking lot.

UCSB Student Attacked


The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team has been called in to assist Sheriff’s Detectives, Isla Vista Foot Patrol Deputies and UCSB Police Officers in searching for evidence related to the brutal attack and rape of a UCSB student by a group of suspects on Sunday, February 23. 

The 19-year-old female victim was last seen walking alone between midnight and 12:30 a.m. in the area of Embarcadero Del Mar and Segovia Road.  The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers were called in at 4:15 p.m. today, February 25, to help authorities canvas the area for any evidence that may assist with the investigation.

Robbery at Hayashi Vegetable Stand


On 2-23-14, deputies with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a robbery at the Hayashi Vegetable Stand in Oceano. The cashier at the stand told deputies, a man on a bicycle rode up to the stand, parked his bike, made contact with the cashier and demanded his cell phone.

At that time, the cashier says the man displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The man got back on his bike and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt in the incident. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult in his late 20's to early 30's.

Search and Recovery Team Working on Plane Crash


On 2-23-14, divers with the Sheriff's Underwater Search and Recovery Team working off the dive boat "Magic" located the wreckage believed to be that of the airplane that went down off the coast of Oceano on 1-14-14. Using all the information gathered from witnesses, radar, sonar and depth finders, the divers were able to locate a large debris field near the area they had been searching since the plane went down.

Divers found what appears to be the wing, the fuselage, and other parts of the aircraft. Two small pieces that were believed to be from the plane were recovered, including a carburetor and part of the manifold as well as a metal tube. No human remains were found. The
