Bakersfield Teen Dies In Weekend Accident On Hwy 101

Derrick-DuffAn 18-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash at the south end of Nipomo This Past Saturday.  The victim was identified by the Bakersfield Californian as Derrick Duff.

Duff was from Bakersfield and according to the CHP, had been visiting Pismo Beach with two friends when the accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. Saturday.  The highway patrol said a Jeep was headed south on Highway 101 near the intersection with Highway 166. The Jeep’s driver hit the middle divider, then veered back into traffic.

Duff was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, then struck by an unknown number of vehicles. None of the drivers of those vehicles stopped, the CHP said.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the mishap, the CHP said.

Duff was a star basketball player at Bakersfield’s Highland High School, said the Californian.
