Caltrans Details Major Efforts To Fight Climate Change

CaltransYesterday, Caltrans released a report detailing its efforts to fight climate change.  Caltrans will curb greenhouse gas emissions and use new technology such as low-energy cement and LED lighting.

Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty says “Caltrans is cutting greenhouse gas emissions by reducing traffic congestion, expanding alternatives to driving, and embracing new technology in construction materials.”

The report shows efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change.  It also shows that Caltrans has reduced emissions by at least 161,000 tons annually; this is equivalent to 31,000 cars off the road.

Caltrans is using native plants for landscaping and installing solar panels on 70 of their buildings to generate nearly four million kilowatt hours of renewable energy annually.
