Caltrans To Hold Annual Worker Memorial Ceremony

Cal-trans-memorialA memorial ceremony will be held for Caltrans workers who died in the line of duty on the state highway system.

Caltrans honors those who have died by placing their names on a memorial plaque in the lobby of the Caltrans headquarters building in Sacramento.

The District Five ceremony places a rose on top of a memorial rock that lists the fallen employees’ name.  Since 1924, 178 Caltrans employees have been killed on the job. Eight have died in District Five.

Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino will be the keynote speaker at this year’s event.

The memorial will be held Monday, April 29 at 10:00 AM, at the Caltrans District Five office.  It’s located at 50 Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo.

Caltrans reminds everyone to ‘Slow for the Cone Zone’.
