There seems to be an increasing support for “Universal Preschool” for all 3 and 4 years children as a major strategy for improving the “school readiness” for all children. We’ve talked before about making this early effort at closing the achievement gap between children in poverty, English Language learners and Foster Children and other children through high quality preschool programs. The key to the success of this strategy of Universal Preschool is the quality of the program. Today I will briefly describe six characteristics of a high-quality preschool program.
