Escaped Tortoise Found in Grover Beach


A tortoise found in Grover Beach yesterday morning is reunited with its owner. Kennedy the tortoise escaped its yard and cruised through north Grover Beach. Police described the apprehension of the tortoise as routine following a “slow chase.”

Alisal Guest Ranch Closes After Norovirus Outbreak


Alisal Guest Ranch in Solvang closed after a norovirus outbreak last week.  Several guests became ill, but none were hospitalized. Several guests reported severe stomach pain. The resort closed voluntarily.  The ranch is now being thoroughly cleaned. Norovirus is highly contagious. It can infect anyone. Symptoms include stomach pain, nausea and vomiting.

Former Pismo Beach Mayor Passes Away


One sad note this morning, former Pismo Beach City Mayor Dick Morrow died Monday. Morrow played baseball for Cal Poly before and after service during the Korean war in the early 50’s. After graduation from Cal Poly, he coached baseball and basketball at San Luis Obispo High School.  He worked as a counselor at the school for 25 years. He …

Driver Hits Bear Near Santa Margarita


A Grover Beach woman struck a bear with her car late Saturday night on 101 just north of Highway 58 near Santa Margarita. The car flipped over and slid on it roof about 50 feet down the pavement. 21-year-old Lynai Williams was not injured. The CHP estimates the bear weighed about 400 pounds.
