Alleged Assault on Child

On the evening of June 25, at about 7:15 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the condominium complex located at 676 N. 12th Street for a reported assault on a child. Missing Person Found Unharmed

On 6-25-14 Stephanie Brummond was located in the City of San Luis Obispo unharmed. The Atascadero Police Department would like to thank the media and citizens for their assistance in this matter.

Settlement Agreement Has Been Reached to Eliminate Billboards

A settlement agreement has been reached between the City of San Luis Obispo and CBS Outdoor LLC over the elimination of several billboards.  One of the billboards to be removed is a large two-paneled sign and is located at 1960 Santa Barbara Avenue adjacent to Railroad Square and the Railroad Museum.

Hearst Castle Tries to Cut Water Consumption by Closing Restrooms

Hearst Castle, in an effort to cut water consumption because of the drought, are closing their restrooms July 7. Thirty eight portable toilets will be installed at the Visitor Center, along with six hand sanitizer stations. State Parks officials say the closure of the restrooms is expected to reduce water consumption by 40-50%.

Deteriorating Air Quality Due to Blowing Dust and Sand

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) and County Public Health Department are advising the public of deteriorating air quality in the Oceano Dunes/Nipomo Mesa area due to blowing dust and sand. Blowing sand and dust is forecasted to occur on very windy days from 11 am to 7 pm, with the dust forecasted to peak from 1 pm to 6 pm.

Alleged Santa Barbara Child Molester Arrested in Hawaii

Thirty five year old, Ronald “Chad” Williams was recently arrested in Honolulu, Hawaii for molesting a minor while he was the director of the San Marcos Christian Camp.  The camp is located in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County off Highway 154.  The alleged crime occurred in the summer of 2005. Atascadero Searches for Missing Person

On June 21 Stephanie Brummond was reported to the Atascadero Police Department as missing. On June 19 Brummond was released from County Mental Health. Brummond is prescribed medication, but has refused to take them in the past. Brummond was captured on video surveillance on 6-19-14 at approximately 3:38 PM boarding a 1st Line Transit bus in San Luis Obispo.

Search Continues for Lost Fireman

Seven members of the Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue team (SBCSAR) joined the search over the weekend for Mike Herdman, an Arcadia City fireman that went camping with a friend nine days ago.  Herdman, 36, an experienced outdoorsman who had camped in the area several times before, was last seen June 13th.  He and another Arcadia firefighter-paramedic, Tyler Byars, were two days into a four-day backpacking trip when Herdman left a campsite late in the night to chase aft Read More »

Memorial for SLO High School Grad

Jackson Garland, the 18-year-old San Luis Obispo High grad who was killed in a car collision near Los Osos on June 18 is being remembered today. A memorial service will be held at San Luis Obispo High school at 4:00 p.m.  At 1 p.m. There will also be a small vigil at Sabetta's Pizza and Pasta in Morro Bay at 1:00 p.m. where Garland worked.
