McDonalds’s proposal for a 50-seat eatery at the Vons shopping center on Los Osos Valley Road has received complaints from many Los Osos residents that the fast food chain restaurant does not fit the Los Osos lifestyle. They claim that adding the McDonalds would encourage an unhealthy lifestyle, increase pollution, negatively affect traffic and parking, and hurt local restaurants.
The Los Osos residents who support the McDonald’s proposal said it has the potential to create 35 jobs, revitalize a vacant Bank of America building and bring in more tax revenue. The Planning Commission approved the project on Feb. 6 with a 4-1 vote but denied McDonald’s request for a drive-through window, which the restaurant is appealing. The board is expected to address the issue after it convenes its afternoon session at 1:30 p.m.
