Delay in Cabrillo High School Coach Battery Case

The criminal case against two former Cabrillo High School assistant wrestling coaches charged with battery on a minor was delayed for a second time yesterday. Judge James Iwasko granted a continuance for further investigation to May 13.

The two coaches- 45-year-old Chad Johnson and 22-year-old Matthew Giles- also face charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors for allegedly sanctioning an attack on a Cabrillo High School wrestling student on December 9. The alleged victim, 16-year-old Fabian Realpe, filed a civil suit seeking more than $10,000 in damages against the Lompoc Unified School District and named Johnson, Giles and Chewy Medrano, a third former assistant wrestling coach.
