Explosion Causes Fire In Atascadero Industrial Complex

fireFire officials are still trying to determine what caused an explosion at an industrial plant on Sycamore Road in Atascadero Friday afternoon. The explosion caused a major fire which took two hours to put out. Nobody was injured.

First arriving engines found the approximately 7000 square feet industrial complex fully involved with heavy fire and smoke conditions already coming through the roof of the structure.

Fire crews were also concerned over the potential for hazardous materials contamination to the nearby Salinas River and the fire spreading to nearby vegetation.

The Fire originated in the portion of the building that housed Fail Safe Fiberglass.  The fire was the result of an explosion, which is still under investigation.
