Flu Related Deaths Along Bay Area And Central Coast On The Rise

The number of flu-related deaths across the Bay Area and Central Coast is growing.  Health officials confirmed yesterday two more people in Santa Clara County and one in Santa Cruz County have died of complications from the virus, bringing the total so far this season into the mid-teens.  There are some Bay Area pharmacies which are reporting temporary low supplies of flu shots, but a spokesman for health provider Kaiser Permanente says they don't anticipate a shortage.  In San Luis Obispo County, no deaths have been reported, but health officials say eight people have been hospitalized since November 28. They are between the ages of ten and 79. SLO County health officials say most people are being sickened by the H1N1 virus, which mostly affects young and middle-aged people. If you're interested in getting the vaccine, you should contact your local health department for additional information.
