High Speed Pursuit From Buellton To Montecito Ends In Arrest

handcuffs2On Friday, June 7 a high speed vehicle pursuit ensued on US-101 southbound following a Buellton CHP enforcement stop attempt, which involved a 2013 Chrysler 300S being driven in excess of the maximum 65 MPH speed limit.

The driver of the Chrysler, later identified as Juan Francisco Rodriguez Jr. of Oxnard, fled from pursuing CHP Officers at speeds in excess of 120 MPH while in the Buellton Area.

The Santa Barbara Area CHP took over the pursuit on US-101 southbound at Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.  Rodriguez drove recklessly on US-101 southbound through Goleta.  With heavy traffic ahead in Santa Barbara, the CHP determined the risk of pursuing the Chrysler outweighed the necessity for capture and called off the pursuit in the interest of public safety.

CHP Dispatch then received multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting the reckless Chrysler had exited the freeway in Montecito and was in the area of Coast Village Road.

CHP Officers established a perimeter around the Vons shopping center, which is located on the corner of Coast Village Road at Hot Springs Road.  The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and the Santa Barbara Police Department assisted CHP searching the area within the perimeter.  Two occupants were arrested, one of which had outstanding warrants in Ventura County. Rodriguez was found inside a nearby residence, which he broke into to elude capture.
