Inmate Dies at SLO County Jail

An inmate has died at SLO County Jail. Tuesday, 28-year-old Josey Richard Meche, a transient, was booked into the County Jail at approximately 11:26 PM by San Luis Obispo Police on a charge of resisting arrest. When Meche arrived at the jail he had no complaint of any medical condition and was cooperative with correctional staff.

Approximately an hour later, jail staff discovered Meche unresponsive on the floor of his cell, and responded with medical aid including CPR and an automatic electronic defibrillator.  Meche was the sole occupant in the cell. Meche was transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Medical Center where he died a short time later.
