Morro Bay Power Plant Closing

Dynegy, the owner of the 58-year-old Morro Bay Power Plant, announced  Thursday, November 7, that the plant is going to be closed, and in a letter to Governor Jerry Brown, Dynegy said it will be shut down next year.

The closure ends thirteen years of conflict over the power plant, the effort by Duke Energy to build a much larger plant and the damage that the plant has done and continues to exact on the aquatic life of the Morro Bay National Estuary and injury to the health of residents from the harmful particulate matter  in emissions from the plant's 450-foot high smokestacks.
