No DUI Arrests At San Luis Obispo Sobriety Checkpoint

DUI-CheckpointThe San Luis Obispo Police Department hosted a DUI Checkpoint on July 5th.  The checkpoint was staffed by officers from throughout the county as a part of the San Luis Obispo County DUI Task Force and was funded by the “Avoid the 14” Grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The purpose for DUI Checkpoints is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serve as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers.

The checkpoint was held in the 500 block of Higuera St, between Nipomo and Carmel streets between 8:00 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.  869 vehicles passed through checkpoint. 524 vehicles were screened: There were no arrests for DUI, and no citations for suspended driver’s licenses.
