Adopt Slick! by Coast Mornings,posted Mar 23 2012 6:52AM
Slick is a pretty short haired girl with sleek, soft grey fur and almond shaped gold eyes. This little girl is very outgoing – there is nothing shy or retiring about her – Slick greets everyone who enters the cattery. Try to ignore her and she'll reach up on your leg with both paws, asking for attention with her cute, croaky little voice. Sit down with her and she'll happily curl up in your lap, purring softly.
Though she tends to keep her distance from the other cats in the cattery, Slick is non-aggressive, so she should be fine with other pets. She's also a good choice for a family with children. Slick is a beautiful lady – sweet and loving – a true gentle soul who deserves a loving home to call her own.
Slick is 2.5 years old, spayed, current on vaccination, micro chipped, and is certified as a professional lap snuggler.

The film stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprising their roles as MIB agents J and K alongside Emma Thompson, Jemaine Clement, and Josh Brolin as a young K.
SNL's Bill Hader makes an appearance as Andy Warhol.
Ayanna has 15 feet worth of nails, including her toenails. She is featured on "My Strange Addiction".
Ayanna's addiction to her toenails means.... She has to walk on her heels and go up and down stairs sideways, spends $200 a week on mani/pedis and is unable to sleep on her back or wear socks or closed-toe shoes.
In addition to all of that, she has diabetes, and her toenails prohibit her from getting the exercise she needs to stay healthy, since she can't run.
She also has a foot fungus. But she refuses to cut her toenails because she says they are "just sexy and sassy."
This week's featured pet is Richard, a 6-year-old short haired black cat with almond shaped golden eyes. He's extremely friendly and loving—he doesn't need any encouragement at all to come up and greet you. Better still—sit down next to him and he will be in your lap in a heartbeat. The only time Richard will move is to get closer to you—indeed—if you are looking for a cat to cuddle with, you cant find a better snuggler than this guy!
Richard is a clown—playful, active and funny, and is sure to keep you amused and laughing. And he gets along well with the other cats, too, so would be a great choice for a family with pets and/or children. Richard is a sweetheart –affectionate, loving and cuddly, with a great personality to boot – the purrfect combination for the purrfect companion.
Richard is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and litter boxed trained as well!
Media Pawtner Update: Previously featured Pet Pals still on our adoption list are Sparky, Tiffany, and Marvin. Bandit was adopted last week by a KZOZ listener! Thank you for helping us spread the word about amazing animals out here at Woods Humane Society!

'Leap Day'is February 29, which is an extra (intercalary) day added during aLeap Year, making the year 366 days long – and not 365 days, like a common (normal) year. Nearly every 4 years is a Leap Year in our modernGregorian Calendar.
Ever since Leap Years were first introduced over 2000 years ago with the transition from theRoman Calendarto theJulian Calendarin 45 BCE (Before Common Era), Leap Day has been associated with age-old Leap Day traditions and folklore.
According to an old Irish legend, or possibly history, St Bridget struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men – and not just the other way around – every 4 years. This is believed to have been introduced to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how Leap Day balances the calendar.
In some places, Leap Day has been known as "Bachelors' Day" for the same reason. A man was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money, if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on Leap Day. In many European countries, especially in the upper classes of society, tradition dictates that any man who refuses a woman's proposal on February 29 has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. The intention is that the woman can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. During the middle ages there were laws governing this tradition.
This week's featured Pet Pal is Bandit, a 5-year-old tan & white Boxer/Cattle Dog mix who has called WHS home since January. Bandit joined our shelter's adoption program when his previous owner passed away. Bandit is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, house trained, leash trained, off-leash trained, crate trained, and loves to stand on his hind legs and dance. Bandit is also a professional cat groomer and loves to lick them. He has spent time with young children and loves to play (previous caretaker states that he never tires of children-high tolerance level). Gentle, cat friendly, fully trained, and social—Bandit is a well rounded dog with great confidence. He would do well in a family with respectful kids and other dogs—oddly cat friendly as well. He absolutely LOVES humans and interacting with anyone who is interested. He also likes to play fetch, chase, and running (a great jogging partner). Bandit does well by himself and would prefer to be an indoor/outdoor dog (this is a Family Dog). If you are looking for a low maintenance companion who is social, friendly, and easy to live with—stop by Woods Humane Society and spend some time with Bandit. Oh and check out Bandit's GORGEOUS blue eyes!
Boxers (Bandit's dominant breed)
The well-conditioned middleweight athlete of dogdom, the Boxer is a powerful dog with an intelligent and alert expression. While they are instinctive guardians, the Boxer loves to be with his people. This personality has allowed them to succeed as couriers during war time and as seeing-eye dogs for the blind.
A Look Back
Developed in Germany in the 19th century, Boxers were originally used for dog fighting and to run down and hold large game such as wild boar and bison until the hunter could arrive. The breed is known for standing up on its hind legs and batting at its opponent, appearing to box with its front paws. Imported to America after World War I, they began to grow in popularity in the late 1930s.
Right Breed for You?
One of the breed's most notable characteristics is its desire for human affection, especially from children. They are patient and spirited with children, but also protective, making them a popular choice for families. The Boxer requires little grooming, but needs daily exercise.

COST OF GAS JUMPS 10 CENTS DURING ABC NEWS BROADCAST... GOOD TIMES.
As ABC News reporter Cecilia Vega introduced her piece on high gas prices, the sign at the downtown Los Angeles gas station behind her showed the price of regular gas at $4.99 a gallon.
However when the piece concluded nearly two minutes later the price of regular gas had jumped 10 cents to $5.09 a gallon.
This week's featured pet is Gypsy, a 3-year-old silver and black domestic short haired tabby who has called WHS her home since December. All you have to do is look at her picture to see that Gypsy is a stunner! She's a short haired silver tabby with gorgeous markings, big gold eyes and a long, elegant tails she holds proudly straight up. She's a little quiet and shy—can usually be found tucked away on a shelf in the cattery, but all it takes is a little petting and coaxing words and you find her tentatively hopping down to get to know you. And once Gypsy has decided she can trust you (which doesn't take long), you'll have her repeatedly coming back for more.
Because of her shy nature, Gypsy might prefer a household without very young children, but is sure to fin in wonderfully to any new environment. This sweet, loving cat has a calm, quiet dignity about her—the perfect lady to welcome you home after your hectic day of work or play.
Gypsy is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, litter box trained, and assisting us conclude our special Feline Love Connection Promotion with a $14 adoption fee (all cats are only $14 until 3pm on Saturday, February 18th).

(WHAT DIVORCE RUMORS?)... JADA PINKETT SMITH RELEASES A SONG FOR WILL
In Touch Weekly has been reporting Jada Pinkett Smith retained a high-profile divorce attorney, but yesterday the actress released a track via her Facebook page dedicated to her hubby, Will Smith.
Jada wrote on Facebook:
With the major losses we have experienced in the last few weeks…
We should remember…
Our lives are worth living fully.
Therefore…
Our risks are worthy. Our mistakes are worthy. Our traumas are worthy as well. The very paths we are told not to tread are the paths that hold the keys to our deepest understanding of love for our lives and ourselves.
Self love is the gateway to truly loving another…deeply
We were born to be loved and to love… fiercely.
Will, I love you. Happy Valentine's Day. This is for you.
j
The track, entitled 'Burn,' is a piano-driven ballad about a deep, abiding love. In it she asks, "can you feel my heartbeat next to yours?"
