Mr. Green

This week’s Featured Pet is Mr Green, a 1-year-old flat-coated retriever who transferred in to our adoption program in January. Mr. Green is neutered, current on vaccinations, and micro chipped. Most likely house broken, he is good on a leash and great with kids. Characteristic of his breed—Mr. Green has a high level of energy and is looking for an active home with room to run. He will make an amazing jogging or hiking partner. Mr. Green is not dealing with the inherent stress of kennel life very well and is desperately seeking a new and loving home to call his own. If you are an active person looking for a dog that can keep up with you, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know Mr. Green. Oh and he said that it is perfectly ok to change his name.

Domino

This week’s featured pet is Domino, a 2-year-old black and white Domestic Medium Hair who is a guest of Woods since December. Domino is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and litter box trained. She is a beautiful cat with big round golden eyes, a fluffy black tail and very unusual markings on her pretty face. Domino is a very sweet cat—quiet, gentle and docile. Depending on her mood, she can be a little independent—she sometimes keeps to herself and you have to actively seek her out. Other times, when she’s feeling more outgoing, she’ll approach you eagerly and inquisitively. Either way, Domino is well worth the effort to get to know—she’s loving and affectionate. Spend a little time with her and put her in your lap and you will soon have her purring away. Domino is an intelligent cat who misses nothing that goes on around her. Moreover, she’s smart enough to know that there’s a loving home waiting for her.

Trooper

Our Pet of the Week is Trooper, a 5-year-old tan and white Corgi-Basset Hound Mix (Corset) who is a guest of Woods since December. Trooper is a sweet dog that is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and leash trained. He is a little shy, but quickly warms up to anyone willing to give him a pat on the head. He rides very well in the car, gets along great with other dogs, and is perfect for someone looking for a quite, mellow dog that is easy to manage. Very responsive to treats and affection, Trooper would be great for a smaller home with older/considerate children. Recently, Trooper accompanied a pack of dogs and Woods Volunteers out for a night with the Central Coast Roller Derby Girls. He performed wonderfully at the event and has since become one of the shelter’s handpicked Pet Visitation K9 Ambassadors. A bit of a conversation starter, at first glance most people think that Trooper is cross-eyed. In reality, he just has a unique coloring to his eyes. Trooper wants nothing more than to find a sweetheart this Valentine’s Day so if you are looking for a companion that enjoys long walks on the beach, watching the sunset, and curling up to snuggle and watch a movie, consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know this great little dog.

Spot

Meet Spot (again). Spot is a 9-year-old Foxhound who has been a guest of Woods Humane Society for over 2 years. Originating as a rescue from an abandoned property, Spot has called Woods his home ever since. Spot is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and desperately waiting to find a home to retire in. He really doesn’t do that much and would be perfect for someone who is just looking for a “dog”. Spot has participated in 2 years of Critter Camp, 3 Wiggle Waggle Walks, 2 Downtown SLO Holiday Parades, and even has his own Facebook page. In fact, most recently we launched Operation Spot via Facebook to try and expand our search for a home. Spot gets along great with other dogs, likes children, enjoys picnics in the park, and usually has something to say about your driving when riding in the car. Spot would like a pet hillbilly and wants nothing more than to lay around the yard or ranch from sun up to sun down. Spot is available for a reduced adoption fee.

He is extremely loving and affectionate and wont hesitate to seek you out and jump in your lap for a little love session. Miguel is really like a big baby—very cuddly and once in your lap will maneuver himself to get as close to you as possible. And when he looks up at you with those big eyes that appear to be pleading for love, he’s impossible to resist!

Kirby

Meet Kirby, a 2-year-old grey tabby who has been a guest of Woods since October. Kirby is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and litter box trained. He is a very handsome guy and is extremely friendly and outgoing—he’ll eagerly approach you for love, and if you sit down he’s sure to take advantage of a little lap time. Kirby is an affectionate, loving cat, but can be a bit independent at times. He likes having his own space and choosing when to come to you for love. Kirby would make a wonderful indoor/outdoor cat and has great hunting instincts. Kirby is gentle and tolerant, so would be a great choice for a family with children.

Spot

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Spot, an 8-year-old female Dalmatian who has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since October. Spot is a spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and house trained. She originally joined the shelter’s adoption program when her previous owner could no longer afford to care for her. Spot is a fun dog who loves to play, go for hikes, and curl up at your feet to watch a movie. She rides very well in the car and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Spot is helping us kick off November’s Adopt a Senior Animal Month and the shelter is celebrating this program by reducing the adoption fee for all animals age 7+ years to only $50. If you are looking for a mature dog who just wants a home to retire in, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and get to know the often-overlooked older animals.

Onyx

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Onyx, a 4-year-old Black w/White Great Dane who is neutered, current on vaccinations and micro chipped. Onyx came to Woods when his family relocated into a smaller home that was not conducive to house two full-grown Danes (See Onyx’s sister Rosa online at woodshumane.org). Onyx was raised from a puppy by his family and grew up with two very young children. Onyx would love to a home with a lot of room outside, but will also want to be an indoor dog. He is crate/house trained, listens well, and plays fetch with a soccer ball. His previous owners describe Onyx as a big oversensitive baby that absolutely LOVES any and all petting. They also comment that Onyx needs socialization, and must be allowed to become a member of the family. Onyx and his sister Rosa were both raised in the country so both would require a little assistance if they went to a home in the city. Onyx’s previous family has left contact information with us should a potential adopter have any specific questions.

Ming Ling

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Ming Ling, an 11 ½ year old tortie point Siamese who has called Woods Humane Society her home since April. Ming Ling is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and litter box trained. Our oldest resident, she is a little thin and bony and would love to have new home where she can be pampered and coaxed into putting on a few pounds. Ming Ling has a lot of love to give—she’s extremely affectionate and enjoys being held as close to you as she can get. She’s a great lap cat who is content to curl up with you and snuggle for as long as you want and will reward you with gentle purrs and heart melting gazes of pure love.
Ming Ling is quiet and a little shy when it comes to other cats and would prefer to go to a mellow home. This sweet and gentle little lady would be a perfect fit for an older, quiet household. Ming Ling is really special and deserves a secure, loving home—wont you think about making it yours? Every animal at Woods age 7+ years is available for a reduced adoption fee all year long and although they might not have as many years left, they will make the best companions for the years you share. Although 11 ½ is old, it is not necessarily old for a cat. Consider that most cats will live into their late teens and early twenties.

“Love Hog”

This week’s featured Pet Pal is “Love Hog”, a 4 year old black & white coated domestic short hair cat who has called Woods Humane Society his home since April of 2008. Love Hog is micro chipped, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and litter box trained. He is a handsomely LARGE cat who easily weighs in over 20 pounds. He is shy when he first meets you, but is very affectionate and loves to be petted and scratched under his chin. Love Hog is aptly named (he could use some exercise), but loves having his rather large belly rubbed. Because of his gentle, quiet nature, Love Hog should do fine in a household with children. However, he doesn’t seem to like dogs very much but gets along great with other cats. Love Hog is our resident lounge lizard! He can often be found curled up napping a basket on our outdoor “Catio” and would do best as an indoor/outdoor feline addition to your family. If you or anyone that you know is “feline” like they could use the power of Love in their life, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society to spend some time getting to know this striking handsome fellow named Love Hog.

DEWEY

Meet “Dewey”, this week’s featured Pet Pal. Dewey is a 1.5 year old Orange coated domestic long hair that has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since January of 2009. Dewey is an extremely handsome guy with a regal face and golden eyes. He is very loving when he wants to be and has a decidedly independent nature. Dewey is very intelligent, active, playful, and extremely curious about everything around him. Dewey would do well in a one cat household; he does ok with other cats but prefers to be the center of attention. However, Dewey would do very well with a “cat-loving” dog and would prefer to live as an indoor/outdoor furry member of your family. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, micro-chipped, and litter box trained. He likes to be held and snuggled and is also very tolerant. If you or someone you know is looking for a furry new friend, please consider stopping by the cattery at Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know our guy Dewey.

This week’s featured friend is “Onyx”, a gorgeous 3 year old black coated Domestic Short Hair cat that has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since April of 2008. Onyx originally joined our adoption program as a transfer from the SLO County Animal Services. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. She is a very pretty short haired black cat with a little bit of white on her chest and tummy. She has a feminine triangular shaped head and face, soft, sleek fur and beautiful golden colored almond shaped eyes. Onyx is extremely affectionate and loving, but has an independent nature. She is very gentle and quick to purr, and lets you know vocally when it is time to give her attention (she is very talkative). Onyx is not exceptionally fond of other cats and would do well as the only feline in the family; however she does very much enjoy the company of dogs! Go figure. She is playful and inquisitive and would be a wonderful addition for an active household with children. She is a true gem of the cattery and will definitely make a wonderful addition to any family. If you or anyone you know is looking for a new furry friend, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society to spend some time getting to know this often overlooked love bug named “Onyx”.
