Hi there! My name is Kristen Kelley and I'm so excited to be here living on the Central Coast! I'm originally from the Midwest. I was born in Detroit and grew up in a small town in Nebraska. I became a "California Girl" nine years ago when I moved to Fresno for a radio job. I started in radio when I was 16 years old at my hometown station and couldn't imagine doing anything else!
Since I'm new to town, I'd love to hear what you love the most about living here and where you think I need to go to experience the Central Coast. Favorite restaurants, stores, etc. Just email me and let me know!
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! It was busy for me, but I got a lot of my shopping done early so I wasn't stressed out. For the first time in a long time I didn't send out Christmas cards. I just couldn't make the time to write up the annual Christmas letter. I guess I could always do a "New Year's" letter...or maybe not. I had a chance to spend Christmas with my family in Nebraska. I had a wonderful time, especially with my nieces. I did not enjoy the weather! My first night there it was 11 below 0. I remember why I moved to California 9 years ago on nights like that! Check out the photo with my niece capturing the wind and snow. FYI, she did my makeup that day, so that's not a tan...it's just an 8 year old putting on my cheek color.

And here's a pic of my other niece who is 21 months old.

Twilight and Harry Potter

Here are my adorable nieces on Halloween! The mouse and the witch!
I have been reading the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer so I'm looking forward to the movie which opens November 21. Check out the trailer below!
SLO Fashion Sessions at Native Lounge

Coast 101.3 was a proud sponsor of the SLO Fashion Sessions at Native Lounge. Last week was all about Breast Cancer Awareness Month with money from the art auction going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. I had a blast! (See photos!) Tonight (Oct 30) is the last SLO Fashion Session at Native Lounge. The fashion show starts at 9p.m. tonight and will feature lingerie.
YOU CAN LEARN A LOT FROM AN 8 YEAR OLD
She looks like a normal 8 year old girl. She loves Hannah Montana. She likes to play Guitar Hero. She likes to play with her friends. And she's not very good at keeping secrets.
On this day her friends and family gather to support her. Some of us carry red balloons for support. Some carry gold balloons in honor of those who have lost their battle. Some, like 8 year old Makayla, carry white balloons because they are survivors! It is the Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and we are here in honor of Makayla.
She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was only 6 years old. She has endured chemotherapy, hair loss, and many hospital visits. She had to spend her 7th birthday in the hospital. I can't imagine having to endure that as an adult, let alone a child. But Makayla has shown incredible bravery. She almost always has a smile on her face when I see her. Her spirit is strong and spunky! I'm happy to say she is doing very well now, but still has about another year of chemo to endure.
As we walk with Makayla, you can feel the love and support from her friends and family. We start a cheer to spell out TEAM MAKAYLA! We are one in our support of this little girl who has taught us courage and strength. She will perservere. I look forward to watching her grow up!
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
I was the biggest New Kids on the Block fan when I was growing up. My room was covered in posters of all the guys, but I definitely had more posters of Joey than anyone else because he was my favorite! I still loved them when they weren't "cool" anymore and went by NKOTB. I was at their final concert as NKOTB in 1994, although at the time no one knew they were going to break up right after that.

Fast forward 14 years and guess whose back?!?!? NKOTB! I knew I couldn't miss seeing them. So my friend Carolyn and I met up in Chicago to see the reunion tour. She and I had met at a New Kids on the Block concert back in 1989 and became friends after that. She was with me in 1994 at that last NKOTB concert, so it was only fitting we see the reunion show together!

It was incredible! I screamed like a 15 year old during the show and sang along to all of their classic hits! I was even able to put sentences together when I met them backstage...although the inner 15 year old was freaking out! It was definitely a dream come true.

YEARBOOK YOURSELF
This week my brother sent me some really funny photos of himself! They were fake yearbook photos. There's a website www.yearbookyourself.com where you can upload a photo of yourself and it will put your face in different yearbook photos throughout the years from 1950 to 2000. These are hysterical! See what you would have looked like if you were a teen in 1966. There are a lot of years to choose from.
I took the photo of myself that you see above and uploaded it on the website and here are some of my favorite yearbook photos!
Here's 1956:

Here's 1964 where I look like my mom did!

Here's 1966

Here's 1968...I would wear this hairstyle now!

Here's 1978....why do I want to sing Donna Summer all of a sudden?

Here's 1984. I like totally like my hair. It's rad.

Here's 1994...this is my favorite yearbook photo pose!
