Pismo Beach Police Attacked By Knife Wielding Man

knifeOn Tuesday 25, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers from the Pismo Beach Police Department were dispatched to the Pismo Coast Shopping Center, located at 555 Five Cities Drive, on a call of trespassing in progress.

Officers having the description of an adult male with a backpack and dog were able to locate the subject and make contact with him.  The primary officer on scene established probable cause for arrest and waited for the secondary officer to arrive on scene.  As the second officer approached, the primary officer began to affect the arrest. 

The suspect 36-year-old  Arthur Groneman resisted arrest and a fight insued.  During the struggle to get Groneman  into custody, he pulled a knife and both officers sustained knife wounds to their hands before getting Groneman into custody.

The officers received medical treatment and have been released from the hospital for their injuries.  Groneman was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained while resisting arrest and was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Groneman was charged with   two counts of attempted murder on a peace officer.
