Preteens Encouraged To Get Vaccinations Early

ShotFebruary 10 to 16 is Preteen Vaccination Week, and the San Luis Obispo Public Health Department is urging preteens to get vaccinations.

The department is reminding parents to ensure that 11 and 12 years old children have been immunized against whooping cough and other communicable diseases.  The reason for this reminder now is to encourage parents to get the vaccinations now since immunization by way of the "Tdap” shot against whooping cough is required before starting school as a 7th grader in the fall.

Don’t wait until the fall but get the whooping cough booster now and get caught up on other immunizations.

Children not covered by health insurance or Medi-Cal, contact the Public Health Department to find out how to get the immunizations.  Logon to, or call the SLO County Public Health Department at 781-5500 for more information.
