Representative Lois Capps To Attend Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Today

Friday, Rep. Lois Capps (CA-24) will attend the ribbon cutting of the Highway 101 and Santa Maria River Bridge widening project. The project added a third lane in each direction on the Santa Maria River Bridge and includes a new bicycle lane and upgrades to the on and off ramps. Capps secured $2.72 million in federal funds for the environmental and engineering design of the project. The $47 million project will improve traffic congestion, ramp access, safety and mobility along the corridor, and will be a benefit to local commuters, tourists and the agricultural community in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. “This project is a win-win that has been a long time coming for residents in both counties,” Capps said. “The widening will benefit cyclists and drivers alike, making everyone’s commutes safer and smoother. It’s a great example of federal, state, and local governments working together to get an important project done for our community. I look forward to the official opening Friday.”
