Same-Sex Marriages To Resume In California After Supreme Court’s Prop 8 Ruling

Prop8The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the case challenging California’s ruling that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.

County Clerks have received direction from the California Department of Public Health that the Ninth Circuit Court must first issue an order dissolving the stay of injunction that has been in place throughout the appeal process before issuance of marriage licenses to same sex couples can occur.  At this point, it is unknown when the order will be issued.

Upon direction from the Court and the Department of Public Health, the San Luis Obispo County Clerk will begin issuing licenses and performing wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples.

Information about marriage licenses and civil wedding ceremonies can be found on the Clerk-Recorder’s website at www.slocounty.ca.gov/clerk.
