Stolen Car Stopped By GPS

On Monday September 30, at 0516 a.m., the California Highway Patrol contacted the Pismo Beach Police Department to advise that a truck had been stolen out of Santa Maria.  The vehicle had an On-Star GPS Tracking device, which had located the vehicle in the Shell Beach area. Pismo Beach Officers immediately responded to the area and located the vehicle on Placentia Avenue. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The vehicle failed to yield and then led the officers on a pursuit through Shell Beach and onto southbound Highway 101. The vehicle reached speeds of 100 mph on the Highway.  Through the On-Star technology the vehicle was disabled in an open field in Oceano near 22nd Street.

Two male suspects attempted to flee from the stopped vehicle but were immediately apprehended by Pismo Officers.  The suspect, 23-year-old Jacob Valdez, from Santa Maria was booked into the San Luis Obispo County jail on charges of possession of stolen property, conspiracy, vehicle theft, and felony evading.  The second suspect, 18-year-old Joshua Valdez, also out of Santa Maria, was booked for possession of stolen property, conspiracy and vehicle theft.  Both of their bails were set at $20,000 each.
