Surf Beach Reopens After Forced Closure Do To Violations

Surf-BeachSurf Beach at Vandenberg Air Force Base has been re-opened.  It closed on April 10th, after an increase in beach access violations during the Western Snowy Plover breeding season.

Base officials say the closure intended to reinforce the rules, which include no littering, no feeding wildlife, no off-leash pets, no camping, and no kite flying.

Violators can be fined up to $5,000 in federal court.  Surf Beach violations cap at 50 before it must be closed to the public entirely until September 30th. Officials say Surf Beach has 37 violations so far.
