Suspect In Oceano Murder Arrested After Police Chase Through Santa Maria

Joseph-MunozOn Sunday, investigators with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Joseph Munoz, who was identified as a person of interest in a Saturday night homicide at the 1300 block of 19 Street in Oceano.

At approximately 9:30 AM, detectives located Munoz in Santa Maria. Munoz, who was wanted for a violation of his parole, was travelling in a car with a female driver identified as 24-year-old Cassandra De Leon of Santa Maria and a female passenger identified as 41-year-old Stacy Araujo of Santa Maria.  

Investigators tried to stop the car but the driver, De Leon led detectives on a pursuit through Santa Maria. Santa Maria Police officers joined the chase that reached speeds of 70 miles per hour through the city. The pursuit ended in Guadalupe when the vehicle eventually pulled over.

Munoz was arrested for his parole violation and investigators are interviewing him regarding any information he may have on the Oceano homicide. De Leon was arrested for a probation violation and a warrant out of Santa Barbara County. Araujo was detained and released. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Joseph Luis Padilla of Nipomo. The investigation is ongoing.
