wild-fireJune 13th at 1:50 pm, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) responded to a vegetation fire located at 6773 Highway 1, one mile south of the highway, south of Lompoc.  SBCFD responded three engines, water tender, a dozer and a battalion chief to the scene.  SBCFD was assisted by Lompoc Fire Department and Vandenberg Fire Department.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found a one to three acre grass fire with a moderate rate of spread.  There were no structures threatened.  The fire spread uphill into heavier fuels and consumed 6 to 8 acres.   Additional resources were ordered including engines, crews and aircraft.

The forward progress of the fire was slowed due to numerous water drops from the Santa Barbara County Air Resources Unit helicopter.  The fire was contained at 3:30 pm. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is related to a hot work (welding and cutting) operation.
