Wanted Gang Member Arrested

Police-lightsOn August 7th, at 07:15 AM, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Gang Enforcement Unit located and apprehended 29-year-old Ernest Gil of Santa Maria, during a traffic stop at the intersection of North Thornburg Street at Mill Street in the city of Santa Maria.  Gang Detectives knew Gil to have two warrants issued for his arrest, including a no-bail warrant for escaping from parole and a $250,000 warrant for assault with a firearm.  Gil is a Santa Maria gang member who has a history of narcotic sales, domestic violence, firearms possession and vandalism.  

Sheriff’s Gang Detectives were assisted by Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team, Santa Maria Police Department Gang Street Team, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.  Gil was taken into custody without incident.

Gil is charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for sales and a criminal street gang enhancement.  Due to his parole hold, he is not eligible for bail.  

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Gang Enforcement Unit investigates violent criminal street gang members, with particular attention given to the connection between these criminal street gangs, the trafficking of methamphetamine and other narcotics, as well as weapons violations.
