Weekend Accidents Result In Two Fatalities

Two separate fatal accidents to report.  Yesterday a 17-year-old girl from Encino was killed when the Jeep she was riding in rolled over near Cuesta College.

The girl was partially ejected when the driver 19-year-old Sanam Azernoon of Calabasas was traveling southbound on Highway 1 near Education Drive.  Azernoon drove her vehicle off the roadway into an embankment. The car then overturned several times.  Several other people in the car were injured, some seriously.

None of the passengers in the back of the car were wearing seat belts.

Police say they don't suspect alcohol played a role in the accident, but are still investigating.

In the other accident, the California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal motorcycling accident yesterday afternoon.

CHP officers say 49-year-old Fred Garrett Jr. of Lompoc and his passenger 44-year-old Kari Cone were driving southbound on Highway 227 at 35 miles per hour while in a group of motorcycles.

At about 2:53 near the Via Chula Robles cross street Garrett lost control of his Honda motorcycle, and it overturned.  Both Garrett and Cone were ejected onto the roadway and taken to a local hospital. Garrett was killed, Cone was injured. Both riders were wearing helmets.

Officials say they don't know why Garrett lost control of his motorcycle, and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
